This is a self portrait painted by Miss Solar Storm, one of Alaska's premier pastel artists. The inspiration for this piece was born out of conflict. Legend has it, one year Solar was vying with old man winter because he wouldn't loosen his icy grip over the arctic that spring.  When Miss storm blew her top it melted the old man's heart sending him reeling into retreat. He was so scared that he didn't show his face until the following October. Needless to say, even when the women of this great state lose their cool, they are still the most beautiful creatures in the world.
